What does the 30mm tube add over a 1 inch tube?

A 30mm mono-tube provides a greater internal adjustment range for windage and elevation and a stronger, more rigid chassis than a 1 inch tube. That extra travel is useful for longer-range dialling and for rifles that need more elevation to reach distance.
