A survival kit essential

The BCB 2 inch Mini Heliograph is a compact, highly reflective emergency signalling mirror that belongs in every survival, EDC and marine kit. Measuring just 5 x 5cm and weighing around 10 grams, it slips into any pocket or grab bag yet can throw a flash of reflected sunlight visible at ranges of up to 10 miles.

Simple, reliable, no power needed

Unlike electronic signalling devices, a heliograph needs nothing but daylight. You angle the mirror toward the sun and aim the flash at rescuers, aircraft or boats. It is designed for quick one-handed operation, with clear instructions printed on the reverse so it works even when you are cold, tired or under pressure.

Built for the worst conditions

Lightweight but robust, it stands up to hard use in extreme environments and, crucially, floats if dropped in water, making it ideal for boat, kayak and coastal kits.

Proven and approved

Approved for marine and military use and carrying a NATO stock number, this is genuine, trusted signalling kit. Add it to your survival loadout alongside more tactical and field gear from our range.

Frequently asked questions

How does a heliograph mirror work?

You angle the highly reflective surface towards the sun and aim the flash of reflected light at rescuers, aircraft or vessels. It needs no batteries or power, just daylight.

How far can the signal be seen?

In good sun the reflected flash can be seen at ranges of up to around 10 miles (16km), making it a serious emergency signalling tool despite its small size.

Will it survive being dropped in water?

Yes. It floats, so it will not sink if dropped overboard, which makes it especially useful in boat, kayak and marine survival kits.

Is it easy to use under stress?

It is designed for simple one-handed operation and has clear instructions printed on the reverse, so you can use it quickly even in a stressful emergency.

Is this genuine military-grade kit?

It is approved for marine and military use and carries a NATO stock number (6350-99-613-9818), so it is the same proven signalling mirror trusted in service kits.
