Bore cleaning made easy

VFG .22 / 5.5mm felt cleaning pellets take the hassle out of barrel maintenance. Load one like a normal pellet, fire it down the bore, and let the felt do the work, no strip-down and no cleaning rod required for a quick clean.

How the felt cleans

The solid felt wad is a deliberately tight fit in the bore. When fired, barrel pressure and acceleration shorten the pellet, which forces it to expand outward and press into the rifling. As it travels it follows the twist of the rifling, so every part of the bore is reliably cleaned.

Quick clean or deep clean

For routine maintenance, shoot two to four dry pellets through. For heavier fouling, soak the pellets in cleaning oil, fire a couple, leave the bore for 10 to 15 minutes to lift the fouling, then fire clean pellets until they emerge clean.

A tidy finish

To stop stray fibres remaining in the bore, follow the last felt plug with a pointed lead pellet and fire them together. The pellets also carry a centre hole to fit the separate VFG rod adaptor. Browse more outdoor shooting gear to keep your kit in top condition.

Frequently asked questions

How do the cleaning pellets work?

You load a felt pellet like a normal air pellet and fire it down the barrel. The tight fit makes the felt press into the rifling and follow its twist, cleaning every part of the bore.

Do I need a cleaning rod?

No. These are shoot-through pellets, so no rod is needed. They also have a centre hole to fit the separate VFG rod adaptor if you prefer to clean with a rod.

How many pellets should I shoot through?

For a quick clean, fire two to four dry pellets. For heavier fouling, shoot oil-soaked pellets, let the bore sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then fire clean pellets until they come out clean.

Will felt fibres be left in the barrel?

To avoid stray fibres, follow the last felt pellet with a pointed lead pellet and fire the two together, which clears any remaining fibre from the bore.

What calibres do these fit?

This pack is sized for .22 / 5.5mm air rifles and pistols. Using the correct calibre matters, as the tight bore fit is what gives the felt its cleaning action.
