A survival essential that always works

Matches get wet and lighters run dry, but a flint and steel keeps throwing sparks. The Kombat UK Beech Fire Starter is a rugged, no-nonsense fire-lighting tool that belongs in every survival kit, bergen and camping box. It works in wind, cold and damp, exactly when you need a fire most.

Built for a proper grip

The flint sits in a comfortable beech wood handle that gives you a firm, secure hold while you strike, even with cold or wet hands. That grip makes a real difference to how easily you can throw a strong, consistent shower of sparks onto your tinder. A cord tethers the flint and striker together, so the two halves stay as one and nothing gets dropped in the undergrowth.

Compact and dependable

At roughly 120mm long with a 70mm striker, it is light and small enough to carry everywhere without a second thought, yet tough enough to last season after season. It is the kind of reliable backup that turns a difficult night into a manageable one.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be 18 to buy this?

Yes. This is an age-restricted item. You must be over 18, and you will be asked to provide photographic ID as proof of age before the order is dispatched. Check your spam folder for the verification email.

How does a flint and steel fire starter work?

You scrape the steel striker firmly down the flint rod to throw a shower of hot sparks onto your tinder. Unlike a lighter, it works when wet, in wind and cold, and never runs out of fuel.

What tinder should I use with it?

Dry, fine material catches best: cotton wool, char cloth, birch bark, dry grass or a commercial tinder. Build a small nest, aim your sparks into it, then feed the flame with progressively larger kindling.

Why the beech wood handle?

The beech handle gives you a comfortable, secure grip while striking, which makes it easier and safer to generate a strong spark than fiddling with a bare rod, especially with cold hands.

Will restricted-item checks slow my delivery?

Age-verified orders are not dispatched until the check is complete, and Special Delivery options will not be sent until verification is done. It is worth ordering ahead of any trip.
