The Unglamorous One
Nobody puts a maintenance mat on a wish list, and everyone who strips a gun on a bare kitchen table regrets it. A mat does three unexciting jobs well: it stops the gun scratching the surface, stops the surface scratching the gun, and stops solvent and oil going where they should not.
The Real Reason To Own One
Small parts. Detents, springs, pins and screws roll, and a hard surface lets them roll off the edge and into the one place in the room you will never look. A soft mat kills that momentum where the part lands. Anyone who has spent forty minutes on the floor with a torch understands the value.
Cleaning And Storage
The surface soaks up spilled solvent rather than letting it spread across the bench and into the woodwork. Roll it up when you are done and the mess goes in the cupboard with it.
The Rest Of The Bench
Rods, brushes, oils and cleaning kit are all in our shooting range. If a job turns out to be beyond a mat and a rod, our Kent workshop is here.
