The Part That Fails First
Boots outlast their laces several times over. A lace snapping halfway through a day, or worse the morning of an inspection, is one of those small failures that causes disproportionate annoyance. A spare pair in the kit bag costs less than a coffee.
Why Rounded
Rounded laces run through speed hooks and eyelets more smoothly than flat ones, which matters on a tall boot with a lot of hardware where you are pulling the lace through six or seven points. They also tend to hold a knot more reliably once they are properly tensioned.
The Length
160cm is a long lace, sized for tall boots with plenty of eyelets and hooks. If you are lacing a low walking shoe these will be far too long, but for a combat or patrol boot they are about right.
