Purpose-built for hollowing

The Morakniv 163 Double Edge Hook Knife is designed for carving spoons, bowls and kuksas. Its wide, shallow curve is sharpened on both edges, so it slices cleanly whether you draw it towards you or push it away, making the slow work of hollowing far quicker and more controlled.

Swedish steel that stays keen

The blade is forged from Swedish 12C27 stainless steel at around 56.5 HRC, a proven alloy that takes a very fine edge and is easy to bring back with a strop. Being stainless, it stands up well to the moisture of green woodworking without staining or pitting.

Comfort and control

A full rat-tail tang runs into the barrel-shaped Scandinavian birch handle, giving the strength and balance you need for precise, repeated cuts. The handle sits naturally in the palm for long carving sessions, and a Tarnsjo leather sheath protects the curved edge between projects.

Frequently asked questions

What is a double-edge hook knife used for?

It is a wood-carving tool for hollowing out spoons, kuksas and bowls. The curved blade is sharpened on both edges, so it cuts cleanly whether you push or pull, speeding up hollowing work.

What steel is the blade made from?

The blade is Swedish 12C27 stainless steel at around 56.5 HRC. It takes a very fine edge, is easy to resharpen, and resists corrosion better than carbon steel, which suits green woodworking.

Does it come with a sheath?

Yes. It is supplied with a Tarnsjo leather edge protector that guards the curved blade during storage and transport and helps keep the double edge safe when not in use.

Is there an age restriction on buying this knife?

Yes. This is an age-restricted item and you must be 18 or over to purchase it. We ask for proof of ID before dispatch, and it is sent using an age-verified delivery service where the courier checks ID on delivery.

How do I keep the double edge sharp?

Strop the inside and outside of the curve regularly with a leather strop and honing compound to maintain the edge. The 12C27 steel responds well to light, frequent stropping rather than heavy grinding.
