The Forager’s Companion

The Opinel No.8 Mushroom Knife is purpose-built for the woods. Its curved blade slices mushrooms cleanly at the stem without bruising the cap, while a serrated spine helps you scrape and tidy your finds as you go. If you take foraging seriously, this is the tool for the job.

Built-in Brush

A natural bristle brush is set into the end of the beechwood handle, ready to dust soil and grit off freshly picked mushrooms before they go in the basket. No more muddy caps or gritty suppers. Explore more field tools in our tactical range.

Quality That Endures

The 8cm blade is Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel, keeping a keen edge while resisting corrosion in damp woodland conditions. The iconic beech handle, unchanged in shape since 1890, is light, warm and comfortable in the hand.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an age restriction to buy this?

Yes. This is a restricted sale item. You must be 18 or over, and we ask for proof of ID before dispatch via an age-verified delivery service.

What is the brush for?

The natural bristle brush on the end of the handle sweeps soil and debris off freshly picked mushrooms, so you clean your foraging finds on the spot.

Why is the blade curved?

The curved edge lets you slice a mushroom cleanly at the base without crushing the cap, while the serrated spine helps scrape and clean stems.

How does the blade lock?

The patented Virobloc collar rotates to lock the blade open in use and closed for transport, a safety feature Opinel has used since 1955.

Is the steel low maintenance?

Yes. The Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel resists rust and needs little care. Wipe it dry after use and oil the pivot occasionally.
