Built For Pest Control
A hollow point expands on impact, giving rapid energy transfer and reduced over-penetration, which is why it is the usual choice for pest control. These are not target pellets and they are not meant to be. If you are punching paper, a domed or wadcutter pellet will group better and cost less.
The Weight
At 15.4 grain these are on the heavy side for .22, which is deliberate. A heavier pellet carries its energy further and is less affected by wind, both of which matter when you are shooting outdoors at unpredictable ranges rather than at a fixed distance indoors.
The Waisted Shape
The waisted profile, narrow at the middle and wider at the skirt, is the standard diabolo design. It seals against the bore and creates drag at the tail, which is what keeps the pellet flying nose first instead of tumbling. It is the reason air rifle pellets are that shape and not simply round.
Match Them To Your Rifle
Every barrel has its preferences, and the only way to find out what yours likes is to try a few. Buy a tub of two or three types and shoot groups with each. Our full outdoor shooting range has the alternatives, and the shop will happily talk you through it.
