In this guide
The 5.11 RUSH range is one of the most popular tactical backpack lines in the world, used by military, law enforcement, first responders, outdoor enthusiasts and airsoft players alike. As Kent’s only authorised 5.11 Tactical retailer, we’ve been fitting RUSH packs to customers since 2006 and know every model inside out.
This guide covers the complete RUSH lineup available in 2026: what each model offers, which size suits your needs and how to choose between them. Whether you’re looking for an everyday carry pack, a range bag or a multi-day deployment bag, there’s a RUSH for you.
Why 5.11 RUSH?
The RUSH range has earned its reputation through genuine durability and thoughtful design. Here’s what makes them stand apart from generic tactical packs:
- 1050D nylon construction, Military-grade fabric that resists tears, abrasion and water. This is the same material used in professional-grade gear, not the thin nylon found in fashion backpacks.
- YKK zippers, Self-healing coil zippers that don’t fail under load. If a zipper matters (and on a tactical pack, it absolutely does), YKK is the gold standard.
- MOLLE webbing, External attachment points for pouches, holsters, medical kits and accessories. The RUSH range uses genuine MOLLE spacing (1″ apart, 1.5″ rows) that’s compatible with all standard MOLLE accessories.
- Lifetime warranty, 5.11 stands behind their products. Manufacturing defects are covered for the life of the product.
- Real-world tested, RUSH packs are used by military units, police forces and emergency services worldwide. This isn’t marketing, it’s verified field use.

Which RUSH Should You Get?
For Airsoft Players
Most airsoft players should look at the RUSH12 or RUSH24:
- RUSH12 if you wear a plate carrier or chest rig (your loadout carries magazines and essentials, the pack just handles water, food, spare batteries and BBs)
- RUSH24 if you carry everything in your pack (no plate carrier) or need space for spare clothing, extra ammo, tools and lunch
- RUSH72 only for multi-day milsim events where you’re camping on-site
The MOLLE webbing on all RUSH packs is compatible with standard airsoft pouches. You can attach dump pouches, utility pouches, hydration tubes and radio pouches to customise the pack for your loadout.
For Everyday Carry
- MOAB 3 if you carry minimal gear (phone, wallet, water, snack)
- RUSH12 for standard EDC with a laptop, the most versatile option
- RUSH24 if you commute with gym kit or carry additional equipment
For Professional Use
- RUSH24 for shift bags (police, paramedic, security), fits uniform, PPE, paperwork and personal items
- RUSH72 for deployment bags or grab bags, 72 hours of essentials
- RUSH100 for extended field operations
Customising Your RUSH with MOLLE

One of the best features of the RUSH range is the extensive MOLLE webbing. Here are the most popular additions:
- Hydration bladder, All RUSH packs (12+) have a dedicated hydration pocket. A 2-3L bladder keeps you hands-free for game days
- Side pouches, Water bottle pouches, radio pouches or utility pouches on the side MOLLE panels
- Admin pouch, Front-panel admin pouch for pens, tools, phone or first aid essentials
- Patch panel, The front of every RUSH pack has a loop field for morale patches and identification

RUSH vs Competitors

How does the RUSH range compare to alternatives at similar price points?
vs Viper Tactical / Kombat UK (~£30-60)
Budget alternatives use thinner fabric (600D vs 1050D), cheaper zippers and lighter MOLLE webbing. They’re fine for occasional use but they won’t survive daily professional use or years of regular airsoft. The RUSH costs more because it lasts more, often 5-10× longer than budget alternatives.
vs Mystery Ranch / Arc’teryx LEAF (~£250-400+)
Premium competitors that offer comparable or better quality but at significantly higher prices. Unless you have a specific need that only these brands address (specialist load carriage features, alpine-rated construction), the RUSH range offers the best balance of quality and value.
vs Maxpedition / Condor (~£60-120)
Solid mid-range alternatives. Maxpedition uses comparable materials but different design philosophy (more pockets, different organisation). Condor is good value but quality control can be inconsistent. 5.11 RUSH sits comfortably between these in both price and quality.
Care and Maintenance
RUSH packs are built tough but a little care extends their life significantly:
- Cleaning: Brush off dirt, spot clean with mild soap and water. Don’t machine wash, it damages the DWR coating and can warp the frame sheet.
- Drying: Air dry only, away from direct heat. Never tumble dry.
- Waterproofing: The 1050D nylon has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating from the factory. For heavy rain, use a rain cover or reproofing spray (Nikwax or similar) annually.
- Zippers: If zippers get stiff, a light application of zipper wax or silicone lubricant keeps them running smoothly.
- Storage: Store loosely packed (not compressed) in a dry place. Stuffing newspaper inside helps maintain shape and absorb moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 5.11 RUSH12 big enough for airsoft?
Yes, for most standard game days. It comfortably holds a hydration bladder, spare BBs, batteries, snacks and a basic first aid kit. If you wear a plate carrier or chest rig for your magazines, the RUSH12 handles everything else. If you carry everything in one pack, consider the RUSH24.
Are RUSH backpacks waterproof?
Water-resistant, not waterproof. The 1050D nylon with DWR coating sheds light to moderate rain but sustained heavy downpours will eventually soak through, especially at seams and zippers. For guaranteed waterproofing, use a rain cover.
RUSH12 vs RUSH24, which should I get?
The RUSH12 is the better choice for most people. It’s lighter, more compact and 24 litres handles a full day’s kit. Only go RUSH24 if you regularly carry bulky items (spare clothing, large lunch boxes, professional equipment) or use it as a combined commute + gym bag.
