The carbine everyone recognises

The Mk18 MOD 1 is the short barrelled M4 variant that turns up at every site in the country, and for good reason. At 9 inches the barrel is short enough to work indoors and around vehicles without being awkward in the open, and the RIS II quad rail gives you somewhere to put a red dot, a foregrip and a torch without adapters.

Metal where it matters

The upper and lower receiver are full metal rather than polymer, which is the difference you feel when a rifle gets dropped, leant against a wall, or carried on a sling all day. The gearbox uses E&C’s quick-detach design, so it can come out for servicing without stripping the whole gun, which matters more than it sounds when something needs attention mid-season.

Runs on what you already own

It feeds from standard M4 pattern AEG magazines, so mid-caps, hi-caps and pouches you already have will work. That is the practical argument for the M4 platform as a whole: parts, magazines and advice are everywhere. If this is your first serious rifle, our beginner buyer’s guide explains what to prioritise, and our workshop can set it up before you take it out.

Note on muzzle energy

Site limits vary and guns are chronographed on arrival at most fields. Ask us in the shop or on the phone and we will confirm exactly where this one is set before you buy.

Important buying note

As a realistic imitation firearm, this needs a valid UKARA defence or another recognised defence under the VCR Act, and you must be 18 or over.

Frequently asked questions

What magazines does it take?

Standard M4 pattern AEG magazines, both mid-cap and hi-cap. That is one of the main reasons the M4 platform is the usual recommendation for a first rifle.

Is the body metal or plastic?

The upper and lower receiver are full metal. That is the meaningful difference between this and cheaper polymer bodied M4s.

What does the quick-detach gearbox mean in practice?

The gearbox can be removed for servicing without stripping the entire rifle, which makes maintenance and upgrades considerably quicker.

Does it need UKARA?

Yes. It is a realistic imitation firearm, so you need a valid UKARA registration or another recognised defence, and you must be 18 or over.

Is a 9 inch barrel too short for woodland?

No. The barrel length affects handling far more than it affects range on an AEG. Hop-up tuning and BB weight matter more, and we can help you set both.
