The original friction smoke
Enola Gaye’s Friction Smoke Grenade uses the simplest ignition of all: a friction cap that you strike against the striker, just like lighting a match. There is no wire pull to fail, which makes it a dependable, low-cost choice for outdoor smoke.
Blue smoke
This version produces blue smoke. Once lit it emits a vibrant coloured cloud for roughly 60 seconds. The smoke is non-toxic, though the grenade is for outdoor use only.
Compact size
The Friction grenade measures around 40mm in diameter and 130mm long with a total weight near 130g, of which about 40g is the smoke composition. That makes it easy to carry in a pouch or pocket for the field.
How it works
Remove the cap, expose the friction surface, then strike it against the striker to ignite. Once lit, deploy or place the device and let the smoke build.
Safety and use
This is a pyrotechnic device for over-18s only. Use outdoors, keep clear once ignited, and wear eye protection and gloves when handling. Always follow the instructions printed on the device.
