Master open-fire cooking

With the Petromax Cooking Tripod, campfire cooking becomes simple and controlled. This sturdy steel tripod suspends a Dutch oven, kettle or grill grate safely over your fire, giving you a stable, dependable platform for everything from slow-cooked stews to a fast brew.

Total control over the heat

A variable chain and hook let you adjust the distance between your pot and the flames at any moment. Lower it for a rolling boil or lift it for a gentle simmer, all without moving the fire or the food, so you get precise control over how your meal cooks.

Stable on any ground

Each of the three legs is continuously height adjustable, so you can keep the tripod perfectly balanced even when the ground is uneven or sloping. Chamfered feet ensure it stands securely on grass, sand, soil or stone, and the whole frame is rated to hold up to 40kg for real peace of mind under a heavy loaded oven.

Packs down for the trail

Built from sturdy zinc-plated steel to resist heat and corrosion, the tripod folds to a compact bundle of around 98cm for easy transport in the car or with your camp kit, ready to set up again in seconds at your next pitch.

Order from Platoon Stores

A rugged, long-lasting addition to any outdoor cook’s kit, ready for your next camp or bushcraft trip.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight can the tripod hold?

It is rated to a maximum load of 40kg, which comfortably supports a fully loaded cast-iron Dutch oven, a large kettle or a grill grate with plenty of margin to spare.

Can I control the cooking temperature?

Yes. The variable chain lets you raise or lower your pot at any time, so you can move it closer to the flames for a hard boil or higher up for a gentle simmer without disturbing the fire.

Will it stand level on rough ground?

It will. Each of the three legs adjusts in height independently, and the chamfered feet grip a range of surfaces, so you can keep the tripod balanced and stable even on uneven or sloping terrain.

How big is it when packed away?

The legs collapse down so the tripod packs to roughly 98 x 12 x 12cm, a slim bundle that stows easily in a car boot or alongside your camp kit for transport.

What is it made from?

It is built from sturdy steel with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance, so it stands up to the heat of an open fire and the rigours of outdoor use season after season.
