Campfire Cooking Done Properly

The Petromax FT4.5 is a cast iron Dutch oven built for adventure and equally at home in the back garden. With a 3.5 litre capacity it caters for 2 to 5 people, so you can slow-cook a stew over coals, bake fresh bread by the fire or roast a joint low and slow with rich, even results.

Made for Real Fire

Three sturdy cast iron legs lift the pot off the ground and hold it steady over hot coals, an open fire pit or a grill grate. The heavy cast iron construction retains and spreads heat superbly, giving you tender roasts, crisp cobblers and deeply flavoured one-pot meals that a thin pan simply cannot match.

Clever, Practical Design

The lid is a hero feature: flip it over and it becomes a skillet for searing or frying, while a built-in thermometer notch lets you monitor temperature without lifting it. A raised rim holds embers in place on top for genuine all-round, Dutch-oven heat.

Ready When You Are

The FT4.5 arrives pre-seasoned, so there is no fiddly preparation before your first cook. Look after it with a simple rinse, dry and oil, and this is a piece of kit that will feed your family and friends for decades.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to season the Petromax FT4.5 before first use?

No. The FT4.5 arrives pre-seasoned, so you can start cooking straight away. Over time you will build up an even better natural non-stick patina with regular use and care.

What is the difference between the FT4.5 with feet and the flat-bottom FT4.5-T?

This FT4.5 has three integrated legs that raise the pot over hot coals and open fires, ideal for bushcraft and camp cooking. The flat-bottom FT4.5-T version is designed for hobs and stovetops instead.

How many people does the 3.5 litre size feed?

The 3.5 litre pot comfortably caters for 2 to 5 people, making it a great all-round size for small families, couples or a group of friends around the campfire.

Can I use the lid on its own?

Yes. Flip the lid over and it becomes a standalone skillet for searing, frying or serving, while the underside doubles as a griddle. It is one of the most useful features of the design.

How do I clean and store cast iron?

Rinse with hot water and a stiff brush, avoid harsh detergents, dry it thoroughly over gentle heat, then wipe a thin layer of oil inside before storing to prevent rust.
