A frozen drink tube is one of the quickest ways to ruin a cold-weather outing. The Platypus Bite Valve and Drink Tube Insulator wraps your hydration line in an insulated sleeve that slows the water inside from freezing, so you can keep sipping when the temperature drops and your unprotected tube would have iced up solid.

A cleaner, protected bite valve

The moulded cover fully encloses the bite valve, shielding it from the dirt, grit and mud that inevitably find their way onto exposed valves in the field. It also guards against accidental spills, so your valve stays cleaner and more hygienic between drinks.

Works in the heat too

Insulation cuts both ways. As well as fending off the cold, the sleeve helps keep your water cooler for longer on hot days, making a refreshing mouthful more likely deep into a long patrol, hike or ride.

What does the insulator actually do?

It wraps your hydration drink tube in an insulated sleeve that slows the water inside from freezing in cold conditions, and helps keep it cooler in the heat. The moulded cover also shields the bite valve from dirt and spills.

Will it fit my hydration system?

It is designed to fit all Platypus drink tubes and bite valves, including the Hyper Flow. If you run a Platypus reservoir, it is a direct fit.

Does it completely stop the tube freezing?

It significantly slows freezing rather than making the system fully freeze-proof. In very cold conditions, blowing water back into the reservoir after each drink, in addition to using the insulator, is the best way to keep the line clear.

How does it attach to my pack?

It closes around the tube and includes a hook-and-loop shoulder strap attachment, so you can secure it neatly along the strap of your pack and keep the bite valve within easy reach.

Does it add much weight?

No. It weighs only around 43g, so it adds negligible weight to your setup while delivering useful protection against freezing, dirt and spills.
