Comfort that packs light

The Therm-a-Rest Trail Scout is a trek-and-travel essential built for a comfortable night under the stars without a punishing price tag. Its open-cell foam core self-inflates when you open the valve, cushioning you with an inch of loft that takes the edge off hard, cold ground so you wake up rested.

Three-season insulation

An R-value of 3.1 delivers reliable warmth across spring, summer and autumn, insulating you from the ground where campers lose most of their heat. That makes the Trail Scout a versatile choice for weekends away, expeditions and festival fields alike.

Fast in, fast out

The WingLock valve is the clever bit: a one-way design that flows up to three times more air than the classic Therm-a-Rest valve. It self-inflates quickly, lets you top up to your preferred firmness with a few breaths, and deflates rapidly so packing away in the morning is painless.

Light, packable and guaranteed

In regular size the Trail Scout weighs around 0.63kg and rolls down to roughly 28 x 16cm, complete with a stuff sack. It is backed by a Therm-a-Rest limited lifetime warranty, so it is built to see you through many seasons outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

How does a self-inflating mat work?

Open the WingLock valve and the open-cell foam core expands, drawing in air on its own. Add a few breaths to set your preferred firmness, then close the valve to lock it in for the night.

Is an R-value of 3.1 warm enough?

Yes for spring, summer and autumn use and mild winter nights. R-value 3.1 provides solid insulation from cold ground, which is where most of your body heat is lost when camping.

How small does it pack?

The regular size rolls down to roughly 28 x 16cm and weighs about 0.63kg, so it straps neatly to a rucksack without hogging space or adding much weight.

What is the WingLock valve?

It is Therm-a-Rest's improved one-way valve that moves up to three times more air than the classic version, giving faster self-inflation and much quicker deflation when you pack up in the morning.

Does it come with a stuff sack?

Yes, a stuff sack is included so you can roll, compress and store the mat neatly. Keep it stored unrolled with the valve open at home to protect the foam long term.
