Built for real heat

The Petromax Grill Fire Skillet is a heavy 30 cm iron pan made to take the highest temperatures of an open fire or a barbecue, as well as everyday use on the hob or in the oven. The two short side handles make it easy to lift and move, and there is no plastic to melt, so it goes straight over the flames.

The grill ridge surface

Unlike a flat skillet, this GP version has a ridged cooking surface. The raised ridges lift food clear of the base so fat drains away and you get defined grill marks on steaks, burgers, halloumi and vegetables. It is the outdoor-cooking answer to a griddle pan.

Seasons with use

Like all bare iron cookware, the pan should be seasoned before first use and wiped with oil after cleaning. Over time it builds a dark natural patina that becomes increasingly non-stick, so the more you cook on it the better it performs.

Capacity and handling

With a 30 cm rim, roughly 5 cm depth and around 2.5 litres of capacity, it holds enough for a full pan of food while staying manageable with both hands and a pair of gloves or a lifter.

Where it works

Use it over a campfire, on a fire pit or barbecue grate, on gas, ceramic or induction hobs, or inside a conventional oven. Its versatility makes it a genuine one-pan solution for outdoor and home cooking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the GP and FP skillets?

The GP version has a ridged grill surface that leaves grill marks and lets fat drain away, while the FP version has a flat, smooth base for frying. This is the ridged grill model.

Can I use it over an open fire?

Yes. It is made of iron with no plastic parts, so it is designed to sit directly over campfire flames, on a barbecue, on the hob or in the oven.

Does it need seasoning?

As with all bare iron cookware, season it before first use and re-oil after cleaning. It develops a natural non-stick patina with use.

Is it induction compatible?

Yes. The iron body works on induction as well as gas, ceramic hobs, ovens, barbecues and open fire.

How big is it?

It has a 30 cm diameter, is around 5 cm deep and holds about 2.5 litres, weighing roughly 3.6 kg.
