What this part does

The SHS D-type pinion gear sits on the motor shaft and meshes with the bevel gear inside the gearbox. It is the first link in the gear train, transferring the motor’s drive into the gears, so a worn or stripped pinion causes noise, poor response and eventually failure.

Build and fitment

Made from durable steel, it is a direct replacement for a tired pinion. It fits standard D-type shaft motors only, so it will not suit round or pin-type shafts. It is secured to the shaft with a grub screw.

Important fitting note

Always use a thread-locking compound on the grub screw so it cannot vibrate loose in use. Pinion height and mesh with the bevel gear must also be set correctly to keep the drive quiet and reliable.
