Why shimming matters
Shims control the height and side-to-side play of the bevel, spur and sector gears. Get it right and the gears mesh squarely, spinning freely with minimal friction. That means less noise, better power transfer to the piston and far less wear on your gears, bushings and motor pinion.
Steel that stays true
Cheaper alloy shims can compress and bed in, undoing your careful setup after a few games. These hardened steel shims hold their thickness, so the mesh you set on the bench is the mesh you keep on the field.
