Air seal for high-power builds

The Laylax Prometheus hard type air seal hop-up rubber is a premium replacement bucking for AEG inner barrels. At roughly 70 degree hardness it is built for high-power guns, applying consistent backspin to the BB while sealing the gap between nozzle and barrel for steadier FPS and better range.

Why hard type

Under the strong airflow of an upgraded gearbox, a soft bucking can deform and lose its shape, making your shots wander. The firm Prometheus compound holds its form, which is exactly what a DMR, sniper rifle or high-power AEG needs to stay consistent shot after shot.

Match it to heavy BBs

This bucking is at its best with heavier ammo, generally 0.28g and up. The combination of higher power and heavier BBs lets the firm rubber grip and spin the BB cleanly for a flat, stable trajectory.

Quality and fitment

Made in Japan from a heat and oil resistant silica-gel based rubber, it is moulded to tight tolerances and fits the vast majority of Tokyo Marui pattern AEG hop chambers. Browse more upgrade parts in our airsoft accessories range.

Fitting

Swapping a bucking means removing the hop unit and inner barrel. If you would rather it was done right first time, our Kent servicing team can fit and set your hop for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hard type bucking for?

The harder 70 degree compound resists deforming under strong airflow, so it suits high-power AEGs, DMRs and upgraded rifles. On those builds a soft bucking can flatten out and lose consistency, whereas this holds its shape.

Which BB weights should I run?

Hard buckings pair best with heavier BBs, generally 0.28g and up, including 0.30g and 0.32g. The extra mass and higher power let the firm rubber do its job and deliver stable backspin.

Will it fit my gun?

It fits the vast majority of AEGs that use the standard Tokyo Marui style hop-up bucking and nub, which covers most M4, AK, G36, MP5 and L85 platforms. Some chambers may need light fitting.

Does it really improve range?

It improves the air seal between nozzle and barrel and gives more consistent hop, which helps you get the most from your barrel and compression setup. Paired with a good barrel and correct nozzle timing, that means better, more repeatable range.

Is it worth it for a standard UK AEG?

On sub-1.14 joule skirmish guns the hard type is slightly over-specced. It shines on DMRs and higher-power rifles. For a standard AEG on lighter BBs, a firmer mid or soft bucking is often the better match.
