Where The Power Actually Comes From

Everyone upgrades the spring when they want more out of a gun, and a lot of the time the spring was not the problem. The piston head is what seals the piston against the cylinder wall, and if that seal leaks then a stronger spring just wastes more air. Air seal is where consistency and efficiency live.

Why Brass

A brass piston head is heavier and harder wearing than a plastic one. The extra mass at the front of the piston helps it carry through the stroke, and brass will not deform under repeated impact the way a moulded head eventually does. On a gun that is being taken past stock power, it is one of the sensible places to spend money.

What We Are Not Claiming

Rocket do not publish the bearing count, port count or o-ring specification for this head, so we are not listing them. What we can tell you is that it is brass, it is from their Next Generation line and it is for M4 pattern gearboxes.

A Word On Upgrades

Changing a piston head means opening the gearbox, and it is rarely worth doing on its own. If the box is coming apart anyway, that is the moment to do the seal properly: head, o-ring, cylinder and nozzle together. Our Kent workshop does this work daily and will tell you honestly whether it is worth it on your gun.

Frequently asked questions

What does a piston head do?

It seals the piston against the cylinder wall so the air is pushed forward rather than leaking past. A poor seal wastes air and makes shots inconsistent, no matter how strong the spring is.

Is brass better than plastic?

It is heavier and harder wearing, and it will not deform under repeated impact the way a moulded head eventually can. For a gun being taken past stock power it is a sensible upgrade.

Will this on its own make my gun more powerful?

Not by itself. It improves air seal, which improves consistency and efficiency. Power comes from the spring. The two work together, which is why seal work is usually done as a set.

Can I fit it myself?

It means fully stripping the gearbox. If you are comfortable doing that, yes. If not, it is a straightforward job for our workshop and worth combining with other seal work while it is open.
